Sling or backpack? How to choose your daily carry

A simple way to decide, based on what you carry and how far you walk.

A man works on a laptop at a cafe table with a Field Sling beside his coffee

We get this question more than any other. The answer usually comes down to two things: whether you carry a laptop, and how long you are on your feet.

Choose a sling if

  • You carry a camera and a phone, not a laptop
  • You want to shoot without stopping
  • Your days are mostly walking, not commuting

The Field Sling holds a camera, phone and wallet with room to spare.

Choose a backpack if

  • A laptop comes with you most days
  • You carry more than one lens
  • You commute by bike or train

Or carry both

Plenty of people use a Transit for the commute and a Field Sling once they arrive. The sling packs flat inside the backpack until you need it.
