Packing a camera cube for a weekend shoot

Dividers, batteries and the one lens you will actually use.

Camera Cube holding a mirrorless camera and two lenses between padded dividers

A camera cube makes any bag a camera bag, but only if you pack it with intent. Here is how we set ours up for two days away.

Set the dividers first

Put the body in the center with its lens mounted and pointing down. Build the dividers around it, then fit the other lenses into the side bays.

Batteries and cards

  • One battery per half day of shooting, plus one
  • Cards in a hard case, labeled used and empty
  • The charger goes in the Tech Pouch, not the cube

The one lens you will use

If you only have room for one extra lens, bring the one that does something your main lens cannot. For most people that means a fast prime for low light.
